The Sassy Cabernet

Geneva!

Over four quick hours, my train from Milan burrowed between mountains and across borders, while I sat cozy and discussed New Zealand comedy with my two new kiwi friends. I emerged out of the train in a land of watch shops and timely trains, of french signs, busy streets and 6 euro coffees. With the help of a hand-drawn map I made seconds before I darted to the train station (thank you Google Maps) I navigated myself to the steps of my sisters apartment (give or take a few wrong turns). She was sleeping due to jet-setter jet-lag, but J and I had a lovely time catching up over currency comparisons, YouTube and euro-stories.

The next morning, after home-brewed espresso and cereal sans-milk (the only way to eat it in the Morgan-Harfoush household), we mapped our route: a walk along Lake Geneva, a ride in a water bus, a light misting at Jet D’Eau, antiques in Old Town, red-light action in Paquis, lunch at Globus, a stroll through les Jardins Anglais,  and many photo ops along the way. Between all of that, we grocery shopped, checked out sneakers, picked up sunglasses, snacked on ice cream (I opted for Biscuit au Beurre/Caramel instead of the usual Pistachio/Cinnamon) critiqued design shops and sampled delicious things in my fantasy food market. In fact, right when we walked in there was a wine sampling.

Sampler: “Oh don’t worry, you don’t have to finish that, you can dump it.”

Me: “Yeah…I’m probably just going to finish it.”

Five samples, the whisper of a buzz and one purchase later and, I was ready to move on to the chocolate….rows and rows of beautiful Swiss chocolate bars. Caramel, pistachio, honeycomb, almond, dark, light and milk chocolate brownie…. Yum.

Pasta, wine and movies is on the agenda for the evening. Tomorrow morning its an early train to Gryon to see my godparents!
